The Outsiders

During the book, the Outsiders, the Socs have a huge rivalry so the Socs decided to jump Johnny and Ponyboy while they were in their own territory. Bob, the Soc leader, decided to drown Ponyboy so Johnny took out his switchblade and stabbed Bob. Johnny and Ponyboy ran away to a run down church on Jay Mountain. On the fourth day of being at the church Dallas came and took Johnny and Ponyboy to the Dairy Queen near them. When they came back to the church it was on fire. Johnny and Ponyboy went in side the church to save the children. The children and Ponyboy got out safely, Johnny on the other hand did not get out and got a sever burn. Ponyboy, Dallas, and Johnny went to the hospital because they were burned. Johnny was really weak and died the week after he arrived at the hospital. Dallas could not take it that Johnny died so he robbed a store and when the police found him he raised his gun, a fake. The police did not know the gun was a fake and shot Dallas. Dallas was dead and that was what he wanted so he could be with Johnny, where ever he was.

The Socs are a group of rich kids from the West side of Tulsa. Some of the rich kids like to jump greasers. For example, Bob and Randy like to jump greasers. Not all Socs like to jump greasers though. For example, Cherry is a Soc but does not jump greasers, instead she helps them. Finally, all the Socs like to show off their riches and jewels. For example, Bob shows off his rings that he has.

Randy is tall eighteen year-old Soc. Randy is a good friend of Bob, the leader of the Socs gang, and Cherry. After Bob died Randy found out that there is no use fighting. Finally, Randy became a good friend of Ponyboy after the time Johnny killed Bob.

Cherry is a redheaded, sixteen year-old Soc. Cherry likes to barrel ride against other people at the rodeos. Cherry is also in love with Bob; another Soc. Cherry goes to the same high school as Ponyboy does. Also, Cherry wants to help the greasers because they are not as lucky as the Socs are. For example, the greasers don’t have as much money as the Socs do. Finally, Cherry is afraid of loving Dallas. For instance, Dallas is better than the rest of the crowd.

The Greasers are a group of friends that don’t have much money, stick together, and dislike the Socs. The Greasers gang consists of: Ponyboy, Johnny, Sodapop, Darry, Dallas, Two-Bit, and Steve. The Greasers had two points of view about the Socs. First, the Greasers thought that the Socs jumped them because it was fun. For example, the Socs jumped Ponyboy when he came back from the movies. Finally, the Greasers thought the Socs were jumping them because they were a lower class than them.

Johnny is a smaller-than-average sixteen year-old greaser that lives with his parents. Johnny’s parents always fight, so Johnny lives on the lot or at Ponyboy’s house. When Johnny got into high school he dropped out the next year. Johnny dropped out because he did not have good enough grades. Johnny is the gang’s pet because he has gone through so much. Also, Johnny is the gangs pet because he listens to what people have to say to him. When Ponyboy told Johnny the poem “Nothing Stays Gold” Johnny got more meaning from it than Ponyboy did. Finally, Johnny thinks of Dallas as a hero. Johnny thinks this because Dallas has much gallantry.

Ponyboy is an astonishingly good looking fourteen year-old greaser that lives with his two older brothers; Darry; the oldest brother, and Sodapop; the second oldest brother. Ponyboy lives with his older brothers because their mother and father died in a car crash with a train. Ponyboy’s best friend is Johnny because Johnny listens to what he has to say and understands him. Ponyboy goes to high school because he skipped a grade. Also, Ponyboy loves to read books and loves to draw pictures. For example, Ponyboy used to draw pictures of Dallas when he was in a dangerous mood. Lastly, Ponyboy sleeps with Sodapop at night. Ponyboy does this because he usually had nightmares and would wake up screaming blood murder or wake up in a cold sweat.

Sodapop is a good looking sixteen year-old greaser that lives with his two brothers Darry and Ponyboy. Sodapop works at the Dx gas station for a living. Sodapop works at the gas station almost every day because it does not pay well enough. When Sodapop was in high school, the one Ponyboy goes to, he did not make good enough grades so he dropped out of high school. Sodapop always listens to Ponyboy when Ponyboy needs to tell him something. Also, Sodapop always tells Ponyboy when something is wrong. Finally, Sodapop sides with Ponyboy when Darry yells at him.

Darry is a tough, and muscular twenty year-old greaser. Darry is the oldest brother of Ponyboy and Sodapop. Darry was given the responsibility of taking care of his two brothers at a young age. Darry also has to roof houses everyday except for the weekends. Darry is very muscular so he got the nicknames “Superman” and “Muscles.” Finally, Darry never reads books or draws pictures because he does no have the time to read or draw after work.

Dallas is a tough, tuff, and haughty nineteen year-old that lives where ever he wants to live. For example, Dallas could live with Ponyboy, then with Buck, and then with his parents if he wanted to. Dallas is often going to jail because he tries to break the laws. Dallas often does what he wants. For example, Dallas harassed a couple of girls at the movie theater for fun and to try pick one up. Also Dallas thinks too much of himself. Finally, Dallas is mostly looking for something not legal to do. For instance, Dallas, Ponyboy, and Johnny went through a hole in the fence around the movie theater when they had enough money to buy tickets.

Two-Bit is a funny, and tough twenty-one year-old greaser. Two-Bit lives with his parents and loves to talk. Two-Bit’s real name is Keith. When Two-Bit was in school his teacher forgot that his real name was Keith and called him Two-Bit. The reason that Two-Bit was given that name was because he loved to get two bits of laughter from mostly everything. Finally, Two-Bit can make anything funny. For example, Two-Bit was with a pack of Socs and made their pants funny.

Steve is a tough, seventeen year-old greaser. Steve lives with his parents and goes around looking for something to do. Steve and Sodapop are best friends. Steve often goes to rodeos with Sodapop for fun. Steve goes to rodeos, with Sodapop, because Sodapop used to work at the rodeo place. Finally, Steve is very good with cars. For example, if Steve was told to take apart a car and then put it back together in a certain amount of time, he could.
